Bookish friends

Book ClubI am in a book club. Well, I have joined one, and our first get-together is scheduled for later this month. I’m really looking forward to it.

I’ve never been in a book club before, and I don’t know the ladies in this book club very well (or at all). Do you have any advice for me about how to make the most of the meetings, what to bring to the group, and how to approach each book as I read it?

These are the books we’ll be reading first. The Fault in our Stars by John Green, The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton, Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling, Oh Dear Silvia by Dawn French, The Line of Beauty by Alan Holinghurst, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, Jack of Diamonds by Bryce Courtenay, Floundering by Romy Ash, and Blog Inc by Joy Deangdeelert Cho.

Have you read any of them? What are your thoughts?

So many good books! I think most of them are on my ‘to read’ list!

  • The Life of Clare

I really want to read a bunch of those. When we first moved here I joined a book club, I was the youngest by 20 years! But being honest, having your opinion about the book is important. I left for a while, I had too much going on in life, but they have asked me back as they like the different opinion.

That’s so lovely that they’ve asked you back. They probably missed your fresh perspective!

I just finished reading ‘A Casual Vacancy’ and Im desperate to talk to someone about it. I kept thinking the whole way through how hard it must be to be amazing at something and then try something completely different. I wasnt expecting Harry to jump out but I think the books didnt take as many risks as the HP series did and there was no darkness. A little predictable for me – would love to hear what you think after you finish it x

Fault in Our Stars and Happiness Project are two absolute favorites of mine. I really want to read Kate Morton and Casual Vacancy this year! They’ve been on my shelf for ages. Have fun with the book club, sounds like it will be a great time! Lots of great sounding books on that list for sure.

  • Katie

I haven’t read any of these, but they all look wonderful! Nor have I ever been in a book club, though I’ve considered starting one a few times.

I’ve only read The Happiness Project, which I liked very much. But I’ve also heard fantastic things about The Fault in Our Stars (it’s on my to-read list). And if I were there, I would so do a book club with you.
